Ruff City Pet was founded in 2020 out of frustration, experience, and a deep commitment to doing better for pets.

Long before Ruff City Pet existed, I was simply a pet parent trying to do the right thing—shopping in both large pet retail chains and smaller independent stores, trying to find food and products that were truly transparent, clearly labeled, and easy to understand. Instead, I kept running into the same problem: confusing ingredient panels, unclear sourcing, marketing-driven claims, and products that didn’t make it easy to know what I was actually feeding my dogs.

That frustration didn’t go away—it grew. Especially as I navigated the needs of my own dogs, Eli, my French Bulldog, and JB, my toy Australian Shepherd and Bichon Frise mix. Like many pet parents, I wasn’t just shopping for convenience—I was shopping to solve real problems, from sensitivities to nutrition concerns. But the more I learned, the more obvious it became that the pet industry often makes it harder—not easier—for people to make informed decisions.

Professionally, I worked in both large pet retail environments and independent pet shops. That experience showed me two very different approaches to the same industry. Big-box retailers offered scale and accessibility, but product decisions were often driven by distribution, margins, and brand agreements rather than deep nutritional or ingredient scrutiny. Independent pet retailers, on the other hand, brought something different entirely—care, education, and intentional curation—but even then, there were limits to what was available or consistently carried.

Over time, I found myself drawn back to independent pet retail because of the level of care and attention that simply didn’t exist in larger corporate environments. Even then, I still felt there was a gap between what pet parents needed and what was actually available on the shelf.

That combination—personal frustration as a pet parent and professional insight from within the industry—made one thing clear: there had to be a better way to shop for pets.

Ruff City Pet was created to be that solution.

While I’m proud to have retail locations inside Prussian Street Arcade in Manheim and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, my reach extends far beyond my local community. Through my online store, I serve customers across the entire United States and ship to pet families around the world.

At Ruff City Pet, I believe this isn’t my store—it’s your pet’s shop. Every decision I make, every brand I partner with, and every product I bring in is chosen with pets at the center. From nutrition and enrichment to comfort and play, my goal is to create a shopping experience built for pets, with their health, happiness, and wellbeing always guiding the process.

I also believe pets are more than just animals—they are family. For many of us, they are our companions, our comfort, and in every meaningful way, our kids. Because of that bond, I believe they deserve the same level of care, quality, and attention I would expect for any member of my family.

Every product I offer is carefully researched and intentionally selected. Rather than filling shelves with endless options, I focus on carrying products I genuinely believe in—from nutritious foods and limited-ingredient treats to enrichment toys, grooming essentials, and thoughtfully designed accessories.

Education remains central to everything I do. I believe informed pet parents make better long-term decisions for their companions, and I’m committed to helping customers understand nutrition, ingredients, and overall wellness without the confusion or overwhelm that often comes with the pet industry.

I am also passionate about supporting small businesses and independent brands that share these same values—companies that prioritize quality, transparency, and the wellbeing of pets over mass production.
